Microsoft Dataverse Development

Secure, structured data for Power Platform and Dynamics 365 solutions.

Microsoft Dataverse is the data platform behind Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio and Dynamics 365. We design Dataverse data models and security, build plug-ins and integrations, and connect Dataverse data to analytics and other systems.

What we cover

  • Table and relationship design
  • Security roles and business units
  • Plug-ins and custom APIs
  • Integrations and virtual tables
  • Fabric and Power BI analytics
  • Data migration

What Is Microsoft Dataverse?

Dataverse is a managed, relational data service in Microsoft Power Platform. Data is stored in tables with typed columns and relationships, and business rules, calculated columns and validation keep it consistent. The same tables power model-driven apps, canvas apps, flows, Copilot Studio agents and Dynamics 365 applications.

Security is a core strength: security roles, business units, teams and column-level security control who can see and change each record, and auditing records changes. Developers extend Dataverse with plug-ins written in C#, custom APIs and the Web API, while virtual tables show data from external systems without copying it. Link to Microsoft Fabric makes Dataverse data available for analytics.

When Dataverse is a good fit

  • Your Power Platform apps need relational data, security and auditing.
  • You use or plan to use Dynamics 365.
  • SharePoint lists have reached their limits for volume or permissions.
  • Several apps and flows need to share one trusted data model.

Where Teams Use Dataverse

Solutions where Dataverse is the right data layer.

  • Model-driven applications

Case, request and asset management apps.

  • Shared business data

One customer, project or product model used by many apps.

  • Sensitive data

Records protected by role, team and column security.

  • System integration

Sync with ERP, CRM and line-of-business systems.

  • External data

Virtual tables over SQL or API data.

  • Analytics

Dataverse data in Fabric and Power BI.

  • Agent knowledge

Structured data for Copilot Studio agents.

  • Migration

Move data from Access, SharePoint or legacy systems.

How Dataverse Fits Your Stack

Dataverse is the shared data layer of Microsoft Power Platform. It stores data for Power Apps, triggers Power Automate flows and provides knowledge to Copilot Studio agents.

For analytics, Dataverse links to Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Custom plug-ins and integrations are built in .NET, and Azure Data Factory can move data in and out at scale.

Implementation Considerations

  • Design the security model early; it is hard to change once many records exist.
  • Check storage capacity and licensing for expected data volumes.
  • Use solutions and environment variables for clean deployments.
  • Put logic that must always run in plug-ins, not only in apps.
  • Watch API limits for high-volume integrations.
  • Use Link to Fabric or exports for analytics rather than heavy reporting queries.

How We Work With Microsoft Dataverse

The same four steps we use across our technology work, adapted to your scope.

Microsoft Dataverse Questions, Answered

What is Microsoft Dataverse?

A managed relational data service used by Power Platform and Dynamics 365, with built-in security, auditing and APIs.

Dataverse or SharePoint lists?

SharePoint lists suit simple data. Dataverse suits relational data, row-level security, larger volumes and Dynamics 365.

Does Dataverse need extra licences?

Dataverse use is included with many Power Apps and Dynamics 365 licences, with capacity-based storage. We review your licences and volumes.

Can Dataverse show data from other systems?

Yes. Virtual tables display external data without copying it, and integrations can sync data both ways.

Can we report on Dataverse data in Power BI?

Yes, directly or through Link to Microsoft Fabric for larger analytical workloads.

Can you migrate our data into Dataverse?

Yes. We map, clean and load data with reconciliation checks.
