What Is Microsoft SharePoint?
SharePoint is Microsoft's platform for sites, pages, lists and document libraries. In Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online stores the files behind Teams channels and OneDrive sharing, and hosts communication sites for intranets and team sites for collaboration. Hub sites group related sites under shared navigation and search.
SharePoint can be extended with the SharePoint Framework (SPFx), which builds web parts and extensions in TypeScript, and connected to processes with Power Automate and Power Apps. Retention labels and sensitivity labels from Microsoft Purview add compliance controls. On-premises SharePoint Server 2016 and 2019 reached the end of extended support in July 2026, so many organisations are moving to SharePoint Online or Subscription Edition.

How SharePoint Fits Your Stack
SharePoint is part of Microsoft 365, so the same content appears in Teams, OneDrive and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Business processes on SharePoint data usually run in Power Automate and Power Apps.
